«In Spitting Distance» yet so far away. Not always: Renowned Israeli director Ofira Henig, Palestinian author Taher Najib and actor Khalifa Natour (known from the film «The Band’s Visit») have collaborated in various projects for years. Najib’s award-winning solo piece tells the story of a Paris-based actor, a Palestinian with an Israeli passport, who wants to fly back to Tel Aviv the night before the first anniversary of 09/11. He gets caught up in the grotesque maelstrom of paranoid airport security measures. The international airport becomes a metaphor for the search for one’s identity. We witness the painfully ironic odyssey of a man who happens to have been born in an occupied country and his longing for normality. (esc)
