Latifa Laâbissi
Self Portrait Camouflage
France
French avant-garde choreographer and body artist Latifa Laâbissi bases her solo on Sarah Baartman, a 19th century black African woman, who was exhibited naked at freak shows in Europe as the «The Hottentot Venus». Laâbissi’s provocative and complex performance takes a critical look at the «colonialisation» of the human body, its exhibition and exploitation, and alludes to the current French political stance on immigration.
