Elections & Erections

South Africa

South Africa’s most famous white woman is a man! Evita Bezuidenhout – former homeland ambassador and self-proclaimed Apartheid activist, grandmother of three black children, gifted with a distinct sense of political correctness – is the much hated and very successful alter ego of the South African satirist Pieter Dirk Uys. Even in the democratic South Africa, the grand old man of international political cabaret has lost none of his irreverence or acuity. The government still delivers him exquisite material. What was once Apartheid is now, for example, AIDS. «I don't pay taxes, I pay royalties», he says. (esc)
