Don’t even think that this male vocal ensemble is some odd throwback, simply because it expresses itself through Occitan, the ancient and dying patois of Southern France. The six urban troubadours from Marseille’s La Plana district recreate the musical heritage of Occitania with a modern twist. The result is original Mediterranean dance music – sweeping, polyphonic, rebellious – typically Marseillean. (jwy)
